Methodology

EFSA adequate intakes for total water (2010)

Adults: men 2.5 L, women 2.0 L; pregnancy +0.3 L; breastfeeding +0.7 L; children by age band

EFSA set adequate intakes for total water from drinks and food. About 20–30% normally comes from food, so roughly 80% is assumed to come from drinks.
